An unprecedented coalition of 250 organizations, business groups, trade associations, public interest law firms, state attorneys general, and individuals have filed amicus briefs in support of The Buckeye Institute’s position in its case against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The case, titled The Buckeye Institute v. Internal Revenue Service (Buckeye v. IRS), is currently before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
The number of amici supporting one side in this case may be a record for the court. According to The Buckeye Institute, even more individuals and organizations offered private encouragement but chose not to go public due to concerns about possible government retaliation….
